THE COMPANY started as Ward/Gilman Builders in 1960. John Ward and Bill Gilman both worked for John Ward's cousin, Jack Marchant who owned Marchant Construction Company in Lafayette. Ward/Gilman Builders built custom homes, additions and remodeling primarily in Contra Costa County. In the late sixties John Ward bought out Bill Gilman and the company name was changed to John R. Ward, General Building Contractor. In the early 1970's the company was getting more and more requests to solve structural problems such as foundation settlement, drainage, retaining walls and floor leveling. In the mid-1970's the company made the decision to specialize in these structural repair areas and phased out new construction and remodeling. Art Ward came to the company in 1978 as the construction superintendent. In 1981, the company incorporated as Ward Construction, Inc. with Art Ward as president. Art Ward became the sole shareholder in 1992. Ward Construction has completed structural repair projects as far away as Lake Tahoe, Fresno and Hermosa Beach. Currently we work primarily in Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin Counties. We are well known for our expertise in foundation and earth-movement repair, drainage, and the repair of water-related problems. Working closely with architects and soil and structural engineers, the firm's highly trained crews efficiently identify and repair all types of structural failures.
